MONROVIA – September 2, 2016:  Former Governors and former Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), have expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor, Mr. Milton A. Weeks for the invitation extended to them to participate in an informal exchange of ideas on the current state of the economy, the challenges facing the financial sector and the Central Bank’s Strategic direction. The former Governors and Deputy Governors praised Governor Weeks for his farsightedness and promised to remain constructively engaged with the Governor.

 

The meeting, held Thursday, September 1, 2016, brought together 6 former Governors and 3 former Deputy Governors of the National Bank of Liberia and/or Central Bank of Liberia (CBL). It was called at the invitation of Governor Weeks to recognize the role each of the former Bank Executives played during their respective tenures in helping to set the foundation for the growth and development of the Bank.

 

Governor Weeks stressed the importance of such gatherings for the exchange of ideas to help enhance the ideals of the Central Bank of Liberia. “The challenges we face as a country and people can best be solved when we all work together,” the Governor noted.

 

Governor Weeks said his offices would remain open at all times as he strives to build upon the foundation that has been laid by the former Governors, who were later taken on a guided tour of the new Central Bank of Liberia building.

 

Former Executives Governors who attended Thursday’s interaction included Mr. Elie E. Saleeby; Mr. David Vinton; Mr. John G. Bestmen; Mr. Charles Bright and Mr. Ignatius Clay. Also present at Thursday’s meeting were former Deputy Governors, Mr. James B. Dennis; Mr. Sandei Cooper and Mr. Sumo Kupee.
